Pumpkin Patch On The Comal
It’s October, which means pumpkin patch pictures!
Whether you are planning pictures with family, friends, or your significant other, I have the perfect place for you on the Comal River (yes, you read the right… a pumpkin patch on the river!).
Float In River Club
Float In is a hidden river club in the heart of New Braunfels, Texas.
In the summer, Float In operates as a tubing outfitter and river club. so be sure to return for the ultimate summer experience. Learn more about it here and here.
In October, Float In transforms into a fall wonderland. The pumpkin patch opened in 2020, and it was a huge hit. In fact, it was featured on KSAT News. In addition to pumpkins, there are photo ops, games, food, craft beer, frozen drinks, and more!

On another note, every year, there is a different setup, which is fun.

What to Wear
Because we are in Texas, the weather can be unpredictable. Previously, the weather has not actually been cold enough to wear typical fall clothing. People were swimming in 2020! But hey, it’s Texas, and sometimes we must make do. So, pack a swimsuit if you’re up for it 😜.
Attire tips:
- Dress to impress
- Sweaters (if weather permits), dresses, and skirts are cute 😊
- Coordinate outfits but not too “matchy-matchy”
- Add texture: plaid, flannels, velvet, leather, denim
- Shoes matter: Try boots or booties
- Accessorize: Felt hat, cowgirl/boy hat, scarf, jewelry, jacket
- Warm and neutral colors look best
- Avoid the color orange (you don’t want to blend in with the pumpkins)

How to Get Great Photos
Last year there was a photographer there with her own backdrop. Likewise, this year there will be a different photographer offering pumpkin mini-sessions. Check out her photos here.
Photo Tips:
- Go in the evening for the best lighting
- Take lots of photos
- Use varying angles: from down low to make legs look longer, up close, side frame, etc.
- Use pumpkins as props: hold them, sit on them
- Slower days = less people = better photos
- Ensure the background is clear of people, dogs, trash cans, etc.
In sum, I am eager to see what Float In offers this year, and will update this post after I go for my third year in a row! I am planning on going this Sunday, so stay tuned.
