Day Trip to Fredericksburg, TX
This one’s for the girls!
A short and sweet post to help you plan a girls’ day trip to Fredericksburg
Known for its German heritage and wineries, Fredericksburg is a charming town and the perfect getaway, even if it is just for the day. What makes a better girls’ day than dressing up, shopping, and wine tasting?
I visited in October with four of my friends. We drove from San Antonio and only spent a half-day, but if I do it again, I will surely plan to go for the full day, so I have time to visit more wineries.
Wine Tasting
First up, wine tasting! There are SO many wineries to choose from. Click here for a full list of Fredericksburg wineries. We visited three wineries (Barons Creek Vineyards, Fat Ass Ranch Winery, and Wildseed Farms) and each had a unique appeal.
My favorite was Barons Creek Vineyards. We enjoyed our wine on the outdoor patio, admiring the beautiful courtyard and fountain.
Before visiting the wineries, do your research. For example, Fat Ass Ranch Winery is known for its “dessert” wines. Since we visited Fatt Ass Ranch in October, we tried pumpkin, apple cider, and cinnamon wines. They were a bit too sweet for my liking, but it was a fun experience.

Dress to impress and bring a camera!
Fredericksburg is the ideal backdrop. From flowers to German architecture to colorful walls, this Instagrammable town has it all.
Shopping
Next, shopping on the main strip. There are lots of cute boutiques. The architecture is also beautiful so even if you are not buying anything, just strolling the streets is delightful.
German Cuisine
And last, an early dinner at Der Lindenbaum.
Since Fredericksburg is a German town, we thought it was fitting to eat some German cuisine. I got the pork schnitzel, and it was delicious!
What I Would Do Differently
This was my first time hopping wineries in Fredericksburg. The trip was a success, forming the basis of this blog post and giving me a sneak peek into what Fredericksburg is all about!
But we also didn’t plan much for the trip (not every trip needs to be fully planned out 😃). That said, next time I visit, I want to go on a wine-tasting tour like the ones mentioned here to get the full Fredericksburg winery experience.
