A Day Exploring San Antonio’s Southtown

Are you looking for something to do in San Antonio other than the Alamo or Riverwalk? Well, Southtown is the place to go. It is only a few blocks from bustling downtown San Antonio and offers a unique experience.

I have lived in San Antonio for six years and only recently discovered Southtown. I wish I discovered it sooner! Southtown has cool restaurants, bakeries, bars, and outdoor areas, giving off a similar vibe to Austin, Texas.

* Note: I broke this post into morning, afternoon, and evening activities. So, you could do it all in one day technically, or pick and choose which things you wish to do depending on the time of day you go and how much time you have to explore Southtown.

So, let’s get started… itinerary style!

Firstly, start your morning off the right way with some food, coffee, and a walk.

Breakfast, Coffee, and Hemisfair Park

Parking Tip: Park in the parking garage next to Commonwealth Coffeehouse, and after breakfast, ask for a parking reimbursement ticket.

The Box Street Social

Breakfast with a chic aesthetic

Box Street Social is the most “Instagrammable” restaurant I have visited. The food is great, and going here for the experience and pictures is worth it.

Commonwealth Coffeehouse

After breakfast, stop by Commonwealth Coffeehouse for a coffee to bring on your walk through Hemisfair Park.

Next, walk around Hemisfair Park

Hemisfair Park is the area where Box Street Social and Commonwealth CoffeeHouse are located.

The park is unlike any other and has a rich history. It has a giant, eclectic playground for kids and a splash pad. There are also lots of murals for pictures and places to sit.

Next, Lunch

The Good Kind

Healthy food and a beautiful outdoor area

I ordered the fish tacos and frozen lime margarita! It was great.

Hot Joy

If you like Chinese food, this place is wonderful! Plus, the inside is really neat.

Explore Southtown and See its Most Instagrammable Places

All these spots are within walking distance from The Good Kind and Hot Joy, so after lunch, take a walk and see some of these sights representing San Antonio’s diversity.

And Last, Dinner

Tower of the Americas’ Chart House ($$$)

Last, get dressed up and enjoy a one-of-a-kind dinner experience at the Tower of the Americas. You rotate as you eat, giving you a 360-degree view of San Antonio. The skyline is amazing. I recommend going right before sunset for an even more incredible view.
